The population of white sharks started climbing since about 2000 in the western North Atlantic; study reports. Having records of the places where white sharks can usually be seen, there comes Guadalupe in U.S, Cape Town in South Africa and Port Elisabeth in Australia, etc.

“The good news is that white sharks are returning to levels of abundance,” said George Burgess, director of the Florida Program for Shark Research in the journal PLOS ONE where the separate study was spotted.

“We stand firmly behind the findings of our study, and our ongoing research only increases our confidence in its accuracy,” – Barbara Block, Stanford Researcher said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

“We determined there were enough animals that there was a low to very low risk of extinction, and in fact, most developments suggest an increasing population,” explained Heidi Dewar, a fisheries research biologist with NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service.

In the period of 1970s and 1980s, the study over white shark populations was declined, likely due to unstoppable commercial and recreational shark fisheries. Nevertheless, from the early 1990s onward, abundance of white sharks seen a fair growth.

The study also shows that white sharks can generally be noticed during summer time primarily between Massachusetts and New Jersey, and Florida during winter; more specifically, the northeast coast of Florida, Florida Keys, and the Gulf of Mexico offshore of Tampa Bay, Florida.
